The OMRA Layout

Frisco Central Division
Our layout represents the Frisco’s Central Division circa the early 1970’s. The line runs from Springfield, MO to Paris, TX, with the scenery portion covering the Ft. Smith Sub – Monett, MO to Ft. Smith, AR. This line was the Frisco’s connection to Arkansas and Texas, passing through a variety of primarily rail-served towns throughout the Ozark Mountains before arriving at a junction with on the Arkansas River.

 Model Railroad Operations
We seek to represent the real dynamics of freight movement on our layout. A computer program generates prototypical switch lists, directing train crews to deliver cars to customers and organizing traffic across the system. Train movements are tracked by a dispatcher, who directs trains to the proper tracks to avoid collisions.

Controlling the Trains
Modern technology allows us to run trains like never before.  We use Digital Command Control (DCC) to operate all locomotives independently and remotely, or even from a smartphone. In addition, DCC creates compatibility across almost all equipment, allowing members to integrate their own stock to our sessions with ease.
